Suchitra Krishnamoorthi (Tamil: சுசித்ரா கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி, Hindi: सुचित्रा कृष्णमूर्ति) is an Indian actress, writer, painter and singer.



Early life

She was born in Mumbai on November 27in a family of academicians.

Career

She started her career with the TV series Chunauti (1987) while still in school. She was a successful model in the early nineties having endorsed many products such as Palmolive soap, Clearasil, Sunrise Coffee and Colgate toothpaste. She made her breakthrough in films with Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa opposite Shahrukh Khan in 1994. She simultaneously pursued a music career in the mid to late 1990s, releasing the pop albums Dole Dole, Dum Tara, Aha, and Zindagi.

Having given up her showbiz career for early marriage, she returned nearly ten years later in the critically acclaimed film My Wife's Murder (2005). Suchitra is a classically trained vocalist in the Gwalior gharana style of Indian classical music. She is also an accomplished poet and painter, having exhibited her paintings in galleries across India and around the globe. Suchitra's debut novel called The Summer of cool was released by Penguin India in January 2009. It is her first novel in a series of four books called the "Swapnalok Society" Series.[1]

Personal life

She was married to Shekhar Kapur, a renowned filmmaker from India. They have a daughter named Kaveri. In February 2007 they got divorced, allegedly due to an affair Kapur had with Bollywood actress Preity Zinta.[2][3] Zinta denied the allegation via the Indian media to which Suchitra publicly challenged Preity to sue her if it was not true, stating that she would provide the evidence in court, after which the issue went stale.

Suchitra is actively involved in charitable work, having been closely associated with Saathi[citation needed] — an NGO that works towards giving shelter and rehabilitation to destitute and runaway women and children,providing means for their empowerment to reintegrate them into mainstream life.
