Shakeela is a popular South Indian actress from India who has appeared in Indian softcore porn movies. Born in Andhra Pradesh, she started out as an actor in B-grade Malayalam, Tamil movies in the early-1990s and only recently has finally been accepted as a star[citation needed] in the Kollywood (Tamil based) and Tollywood (Telugu-based) movies
Shakeela, the name itself is more than enough to tickle all the emotional drives of young and old alike. Even though brought up as a Malayalee, Shakeela was born in Andra Pradesh on November 19, 1973. Her mother tongue is Malayalam in which she starred her debut film and became a legendary porn star. Acting was there in her blood as she began her movie career at the tender age of 15. Her debut soft porn movie was 'Playgirls'. 'Kinnarathumbikal' the ever hit Shakeela film brought her to the mainstream film industry. With these films there developed a major cult fan base of Shakeela all over South India. Career
Though initially compared with the 80s sex siren of the South, Silk Smitha, Shakeela's contours managed to carve a unique niche for her in B-grade soft porn. Her first soft porn movie was Playgirls in which she starred as a supporting actress. Shakeela has stated her ambition to star in a movie someday with major actors Rajnikanth or Mammootty. In 2007, her ambition was fulfilled when she got the chance to share the screen with Mohanlal in "Chotta Mumbai" and Vijay in "Azhagiya Tamil Magan". She has developed a major cult fan base of her own.
She has stated her plans to write an autobiography.[1] The deluge of soft porn or "Shakeela films", made on a shoestring budget of Rs. 20-25 lakhs, has ravaged the star system in the South Indian film industry.[2]
Legal troubles
In June, 2004 she appeared before a court in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, after she was cited as an accused in a case pertaining to the screening of an obscene movie in which she allegedly acted.[3]
Shakeela's films have made good revenue across the third class theatres which were then on the verge of financial problems owing to the proliferation of foreign TV channels and video piracy.
