Sagarika Ghatge (8 January 1986 - ) is a Marathi speaking Indian actress who portrayed the role of Preeti Sabharwal, a member of the Indian women's national hockey team, in the 2007 hit film, Chak De India. She was born in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and is daughter of Vijayendra Ghatge, an actor. She was a hockey player while in school at Mayo College Girls School. As a result of her role in Chak De India, Ghatge has become a representative for Reebok.

Sagarika has completed Kishore Namit Kapoor's acting training course.She has also done many photoshoots before and after Chak-De India.

Sada is an actress in Telugu and Tamil film industry. She is 5 feet 4 and 1/2 inches tall (quote from an interview). She has performed in all south Indian languages. She was born in a Marathi Muslim family from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra in India. She is the only daughter of her family. She did her schooling in Ratnagiri Sacred Hearts Convent and she went to Mumbai to continue her studies till her first movie was a commercial hit. She had completed her first semester in her Engineering in Information Technology at SNDT College of Engineering, Mumbai. She also is a trained Kathak dancer.

Career

Her debut was Jayam(Telugu) alongside Nitin (in tamil - alongside with Jeyam Ravi). Afterwards, she acted in Aethiree opposite Madhavan and Varnajalam opposite Srikanth. She received a best Newcomer Filmfare Award for it in 2002. Her most successful movie to date was the Tamil Anniyan (2005). Once her debut Tamil movie Jeyam was a good hit, she discontinued her education and with her parents' support became a full-fledged actress. Her screen name is Sada, which was taken from her real name and her nick name is darlo (from the word "darling"). Although Marathi is her mother tongue, Sadha has good understanding of dialogues in movies before going for a take. This name made the whole industry to look out at her. To make a note of her first movies, she did Jayam in Telugu, (later in Tamil) and Monalisa her first release in Kannada. She was introduced by Telugu producer M.K. Mavullaya. Sada has shared her favorites and hobbies at different press meets and interviews. Sadhana (Hindi: साधना, Sindhi: ساڌھنا, born September 2, 1941 in Karachi, Sind, Pakistan) is a popular Indian Bollywood actress. Her cousin was actor Hari Shivdasani (father of actress Babita).

Early life

Sadhana was born in Karachi, the only child of Shivdasanis, a Sindhi Family. Her mother schooled her at home until she turned 8 year. They fled to Mumbai after the partition of India in 1947.

Early career

Hari helped Sadhana enter films. She was a chorus girl in Raj Kapoor's Shree 420 in 1955. She played a second lead in a Sindhi film called Abana (1958), which got her noticed and entry to an acting school. The school was run by film producer Sashadhar Mukherjee, and also had another aspiring actress named Asha Parekh as a student. When Mukherjee was casting Dil Deke Dekho (1959), he gave director Nasir Hussain a choice between Sadhana and Asha to play the heroine; Hussain chose Asha.

However, for his next project, Love in Simla (1960), Mukherjee again gave his director, R.K. Nayyar (Raj Kapoor's assistant) a say in who should play the heroine. Nayyar chose Sadhana, and she was paired with Mukherjee's own son Joy Mukherjee in the film. During the making of the film, Sadhana and director R.K. Nayyar fell in love, and married in 1966.

Film career

R.K. asked Sadhana to style her hair with a fringe (like Audrey Hepburn); this hairstyle later became a craze and is still referred to as the "Sadhana cut" in India ^[1].

Sadhana's film Mere Mehboob (1963) with Rajendra Kumar was one that helped make her career and is said to have some of her most beautiful closeups in early Technicolor. However, it was Raj Khosla's "Woh Kaun Thi?" (1964) which really became a landmark in her career and gave her the image of the "mystery girl," where her spellbinding performance kept everyone guessing to the very end. The film became a huge hit and earned her her first Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. Khosla was so enthralled with her performance that he would cast her in two more big-budget mystery films, Mera Saaya (1966) and Anita (1967). She would earn her second Filmfare nomination as Best Actress for the blockbuster Waqt (1965), where she set another fashion trend with her tight churidar kurtas.

In the late 1960s, a thyroid problem affected her eyes, marring her looks. She went to Boston for treatment and made a successful recovery, but film offers had dried up. She delivered only three hits in the period, with Inteqaam (1969), Ek Phool Do Mali (1969), and Geeta Mera Naam (1974), which she also directed. Then, she quit acting, saying that she wanted her fans to remember as a young, beautiful leading lady. She and her husband formed a production company afterwards.

Personal life

Sadhana married R.K.Nayyar in 1965, but lost him after two decades of marriage, and had miscarriages. She now lives alone and does not like to be photographed.

Today, Sadhana meets regularly for lunch with other 1960's actresses: Asha Parekh, Nanda, Shammi,Waheeda Rehman, and Helen (actress).^[2].

Early life

Saira Banu was born in India to actress Naseem Banu of 30s-40s ^[1], and the granddaughter of a courtesan Chamiyan Bai, also known as Shamshad Begum (not to be confused with the famous playback singer of the yesteryear Shamshad Begum). Saira had spent a significant part of her childhood in London, and went to finish school.

Her niece Shaheen Banu was also an actress who was married to former actor Sumeet Saigal and since divorced and remarried to Atul Patel and IFA in London.

Career

Banu made her acting debut opposite Shammi Kapoor in the 1961 hit film Junglee for which she earned her first Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. It also instantly made her a successful actress throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. After having a long time affair with Rajendra Kumar she married to Dilip Kumar in 1966, Saira looked for dramatically challenging roles.

She was considered to be one of the few actresses who started exposing in Bollywood. She wore a swimsuit in April Fool, followed by a number of movies including Resham Ki Dori, Victoria no. 203, International Crook, Saazish, Pocketmaar, Purab Aur Pacchim. Her chemistry with Dharmendra was awesome in Saazish.

Victoria No. 203 was the best among the lot where Saira put on a lovely show with all time famous Ranjeet.

Her valiant attempts to establish a reputation as an actress after Gopi, Sagina and Bairaag (all with Dilip Kumar) and films like Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Chaitali met with limited success. She did earn three additional Filmfare nominations as Best Actress for Shagird (1967), Diwana (1968), and Sagina (1974). In 1976, Saira chose to end her film career. Subsequently she weathered a storm in her marriage in 1980 which was quickly resolved. She then appeared in a cameo opposite her husband in Duniya (1984) and made her last film appearance in the 1988 film Faisla. She has since become a successful television producer recently producing the television serial Stree... Teri Kahani which has been written by her niece Shaheen Patel.

In 1966, 22-year-old Saira married 44-year-old Dilip Kumar and despite furor in the media, their marriage has been one of the longest lasting marriages in Bollywood. They have no children.

Salma Agha (born April 3 1952) is a popular singer from Pakistan who sang as well as acted in Indian films in the 1980s and the early 1990s. She won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award in 1982 for the ghazal "Dil ke Armaan" in Nikaah.

Early life

Agha born to a wealthy father and in Karachi, moved to London at age 9.

Career

Salma along with sister Sabina produced and sang for a record called AGHA - Salma and Sabina Agha sing ABBA hits in Hindi. The record made a few waves and was applauded by critics. However, it didn't create any major ripples in the Hindi film circles at the time.

When acclaimed Indian director Raj Kapoor was at the London reception of his son Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh's wedding, he invited his cousin Zarina Agha (Salma's mother) to the reception. Present at the wedding were many prominent Indian directors, including B.R. Chopra. Chopra had just finished a female oriented hit with Zeenat Aman called Insaf Ka Tarazu. He had just commissioned a heroine-oriented movie called Talaq Talaq Talaq and was on the look out for a Muslim actress. Zeenat Aman (even though, half Muslim) he felt had a much too urban look to portray the character of Neelofar in his movie. Raj Kappor too was on the lookout for a Muslim girl his movie Heena. Soon Raj Kapoor nixed plans and went ahead with Prem Rog. Hearing that Chopra was looking for a Muslim girl, Salma flew to Bombay to meet him. Using her uncle Raj Kapoor's connection, Salma was soon hired.

When the music directors heard Salma's ABBA hits they signed her on to sing her own playback songs. The songs were a huge success even before the movie was released. The movie got stuck with the Islamic clerics who were to approve the movie before its release. They insisted on a name change and Chopra rechristened the movie Nikah. The movie went on to be a huge success and is considered a classic. It is one of the strongest debuts for an actress and a huge vehicle for a newcomer. She earned a Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. In addition to winning the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award for the song "Dil Ke Armaan," she also earned two Filmfare nominations: one for the song "Pyar Bhi Hai Jawan" and the other for the song "Dil Ki Yeh Arzo".

Salma soon purchased Reena Roy's apartment in Bandra, while Reena packed bags to move to London with her new husband cricketer Mohsin Khan. However, Salma wasn't interested in movies much, she soon was introduced to Mehmood Sipra, a New York City business man, who made Salma drop all her movie assignments and produced movies for her, beginning with Begum Sahiba and Bebasi. Sipra's divorce came through while his love affair with Salma began to fade. Both movies were shelved and Salma was left without a husband or career.

Thankfully, her photos were constantly in magazines even though she hadn't had a release since Nikaah and refused most offers made to her. Finally, after her break with Mehmood Sipra, she signed Babbar Subhash's Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki with Mithun Chakraborty and Smita Patil. The movie was publicised with huge pictures of Salma, which in turn upset and overshadowed Mithun. This movie became Salma's second release and another hit. She earned a Filmfare nomination for the song "Jhoom Jhoom Baba." Salma went to Pakistan to visit her now married sister Sabina, living in Karachi and while visiting relatives in Lahore, she was offered Pakistani movies. She debuted in Hum aur Tum with Javed Sheikh. They both fell in love and Javed divorced his wife of 15 years and tied the knot with Salma. They were in such a rush for marriage that Salma Agha didn't even dub for the Hum aur Tum. The bad dubbing job and the horrible story line killed the movie. Though the curiosity of seeing Salma and her box office power made the movie a hit in Pakistan.

Salma worked on many other movies in Pakistan, none with major recognition other than a movie that later got adopted into a Hindi version Pati, Patni aur Tawaif. Salma played the same character she had, in the Pakistani version and was once again teamed with Mithun. While shooting in Bombay she also did Oonche Log with Rajesh Khanna (another remake of the Pakistani movie Dehleez) and Salma (also a remake of the Pakistani hit Anjuman of the 1950s). All of these movies flopped massively at the box office.

She recently went on tour promoting her album Husn.

Personal life

She was married at 16 years of age to a prominent Pakistani settled in London. A divorce soon followed.

Soon Salma was going through another divorce. She carried on with a few more Pakistani movies then settled with the squash coach Rehmat Khan. She now shuttles between Islamabad and London with Khan and puts out an album of ghazals every few years.

She has a daughter and a son with Rehmat and also runs a high-end boutique in Islamabad. She is now settled in Dubai.

Saloni was born in a Sindhi-speaking family, her dad is a Customs Officer. After completing school, she enrolled in SNDT in Bombay, and after graduating in psychology, she enrolled in Ashok Kumar's Acting School also in Bombay. Throughout her academic career, she had always participated in dramas, especially mimicking Sridevi. She also participated with a theater group 'Kala Sansad'.

Early life

Her ancestors are from Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. She is the youngest of the three sisters, the other two, models Meghna Reddy and Sushma Reddy.

She graduated from Sydenham College.

Career

Sameera Reddy made her debut in Maine Dil Tujhko Diya in 2002. She is famous for her role in Musafir. Sameera failed to give big blockbuster successes like Deepika Padukone or like Konkana Sen Sharma who managed to make their mark in Bollywood, however small through their first few films. However luck favoured Sameera in the South Indian Tamil Cinema where she recently acted in a movie Vaaranam Aayiram directed by Gautham Menon which proved to be a hit. Sameera's acting and modest potrayal of a confident and down-to-earth girl Meghna has earned her rave reviews. She is believed to have lost weight for the film and done extensive make up to pull off a slim good looking modern girl. Samvrutha repsresents the youth icon of malyalee cinema industry. Samvrutha entry into films happened with 'Rasikan'(2004) with Dileep in the lead. The film didn't create any ripples at the box office, but luckily for her, she was noted. After 'Rasikan', she played sub characters of such movies like 'Nerariyan CBI'(2005) and 'Chandrolsavam'(2005). She got a prestigious project 'Skaria Pothan Jeevichiripundu' opposite Superstar Mohanlal, but the film was shelved. It was her character Sherly in Lal Jose's 'Achanurangatha Veedu'(2005) which became an eye opener to her. She became more popular in the melodious song sequence 'Pachappanamthathe.. ' from the movie 'Nottam'(2006) which had a catchy beat and was picturised well. Her characters in 'Moonamathoral'(2006), 'Pothen Vava'(2006) and 'Vaasthavam' (2006) were memorable. Her latest releases 'Hello'(2007), 'Arabikatha'(2007), 'Chocolate'(2007), 'Minnaminnikoottam'(2008), 'Thirakkatha'(2008) are super hits. She appeared in guest role in Priyanandanan's 'Pulijanmam'(2006) and Rafi Mecartin's ‘Hello’(2007). She also appeared in the multi-starrer Twenty:20.

After her tamil debut 'Uyir' where she played the heroine opposite Srikanth. She has more offers from Tamil, but she has set certain conditions on the kind of roles that she will accept. Her debut Telugu movie was 'Evadithe Nakenti'(2007), a remake of Malayalayam hit 'Lion'. She has proved her credentials as an actress through her roles in Malayalam movies and now she is all set to venture into other South Indian languages. Her hobbies include watching movies, riding motorbikes and "sleeping".

The title ‘Hello’ has a special place in Samvrutha’s career. It was the title of the first film she had signed.

Director Renjith had planned to do a film with the same title. But it got shelved for some reasons. Had it been filmed, it would have been her first film. She was also considered for the movie 'Nandanam' to play Balamani’s character, but the shooting was planned during her board examination. So her parents decided against her acting in that film.^[1]

Starting with ‘Rasikan,’ Samvritha went on to do three films with director Lal Jose, whom she fondly refers to as her mentor.

Bijlani was the Miss India winner in 1980, and also National Costume Winner at Miss Universe 1980.

Film career

Bijlani made her Hindi film debut in the 1989 film Tridev and subsequently acted in 16 other Hindi films. She saw limited success as an actress and was known more for her dance numbers than histrionic skills. Some of her biggest hits include Tridev and Hathyar. She quit acting after her marriage to former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin in 1996.

Sangita Bijlani is the daughter of Motilal Bijlani, and she has a brother named Sunil. She is the second wife of former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin, whom she married in 1996 after his divorce with his first wife (with whom he has two sons).

Prior to her marriage, she was also in a relationship with Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

Sarika ( सारिका ) (born June 3, 1962) is an acclaimed National Award winning Indian actress.

Early life

Sarika was born to Gujrati Family in New Delhi, India on June 3rd, 1962.

Career

She started her film career as a child actress (baby Sooraj) as a boy in the 60's in Hindi movies. She appeared in many children's movies as well as B grade movies . She moved to better films with Rajshri Productions Geet Gaata Chal with Sachin, with whom she starred in many films and is known to have a brief affair as well.

In her acting career, she was often cast as the vamp Vidhaata or 'westernized' girl in films from 1980's. She gave up her career after marriage with Kamal Hassan during the peak of her career. She has now made a comeback in Hindi films after her divorce with Kamal Hassan. She played Ipsita Ray Chakraverti in the film Sacred Evil which failed at the box office.

In year 2000, she won the National Film Award for Best Costume Design for the film Hey Ram, her performance in Parzania in which she plays the role of a Zoroastrian woman who loses her child during the 2002 riots of India, fetched her the National Film Award for Best Actress.

She also stars as Sheetal Thadani in the movie Bheja Fry (2007).

She also had a small but important role in Manorama Six Feet Under.

Personal life

After her break off with Sachin, she was involved with an actor/model Deepak Parasher. Later she married renowned Tamil/Hindi film actor Kamal Hassan. They have two daughters Akshara Haasan, and Shruti Haasan, her daughter Shruti Haasan, who has recently made her debut in movies as playback singer, for a Tamil movie called Kathiruppen.
