She is married to director-cum-actor Sundar C, and she converted to Hinduism after they got married[1]. They have two daughters named Avanthika and Ananditha, after whom they have named their production house. She has been living in Chennai for the past twenty years. She also has three brothers. Her brother, Abdullah, is expected to make his debut in the movie industry, playing the lead role in the movie "Netru pol inru illai". [1]

During her peak years in the Tamil movie industry, she claimed she was secretly married to actor Prabhu Ganesan, son of the legendary late Tamil actor Sivaji Ganeshan. She had been paired with Prabhu in many movies such as Chinna Thambi, Dharmathin Thalaivan, Velli Vizha, Paandithurai, Kizhakku Karai, My Dear Marthandan, etc. but this news was never confirmed by Prabhu, who was already married. Prabhu never divorced his wife and the news soon died out. The duo with the enviable chemistry only acted in Chinna Vathiyar, and most recently, in Vegam after the well-publicised controversy.

Indian Sexism & Intolerance Controversy

In 2005, there was a well-publicized controversy about her remarks in an interview for AIDS awareness, about the need for protective sex: she said it was fine for girls to have pre-marital sex - but not without taking precautions to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Later, she added that no educated man should expect his wife or girlfriend to be a virgin. [2] Two political parties lashed out at her because of her remarks: the Dalit Panthers of India and the Pattali Makkal Katchi[3]. She was ordered to court and her counsel offered to withdraw the previously issued anticipatory bail petition. The judge acceded and dismissed the petition as withdrawn.

Occupation:
Actress
Years active:

Koyel Mullick,(Bengali: কোয়েল মল্লিক, born April 28, 1982) born in kolkata, India is a Bengali Film actress. She is a daughter of Ranjit Mullick. According to www.webindia123.com and their 100 beautiful Indian women rank, she is No5.

Early life

She is a BSc (hons) in psychology from Gokhale Memorial College.

Career

Her Screen debut was Haranath Chakraborty’s Nater Guru opposite Jeet. Her debut film Nater Guru was a successful film at the box-office. The film, which was released 2003, marks Koel’s entry into Tollywood. Nater Guru, which has Jeet in the male lead, sees Koel playing the role of a 23-year-old girl called Monica. She is an ardent admirer of Uttam Kumar, Suchitra Sen, Aparna Sen, Laboni Sarkar, Indrani Halder and Rituparna Sengupta, Koel felt it was “destiny” that brought her to the industry.[3]

She became a part of the Tollywood frat pack in 2003 with the hit film, Nater Guru, the actress has been steadily climbing the local celeb charts. She did create a sensation of sorts with her first film Nater Guru.Nater Guru, which also starred Ranjit Mullick was a major hit and the lead pair of Koel and Jeet has since then become a romantic regular. The two have done a good six to seven films together.[4]

In 2004, she starred in Devipaksha, Shudhu Tumi, Badshah and Bandhan. While the first two swan-dived on the big screen, Badshah and Bandhan more than made up, with the latter going on to become a major money-earner.

In 2005, Koel made her mark in Shubha Drishti, Manik, Juddha and Chorey Chorey Mastuto Bhai. But it was Juddha, in which she held her own against veterans Mithun Chakraborty and Debasree Roy, and Jeet, that had Tollywood junkies lining up for a look. The film recorded an unprecedented initial collection of Rs 1.2 crore in the first week itself.

In a short span of three years, She has become one of the most visible pretty faces in the Bengali film industry today.

Her films thus far have seen her playing the teen queen or the ardent lover, her soon-to-be-released movie, MLA Phatakeshto sees her cast in a different mould altogether. In the film, which also stars Mithun Chakraborty and Debasree Roy, Koel takes on the character of a hard-nosed reporter and for a change, she will not be doing the two-step to any Tollywood tune.

This year though, Jeet apart, she is striking up a new romantic on-screen alliance with Anubhav, an actor who has been doing pretty well in Orissa film thus far.

As Mithun Chakraborty puts it,Today Koel is at a good place in her career and I’m extremely proud that she started off her career with me. She is articulate, has a strong acting ability and star appeal.[5]

Personal life

In the media

An interview published in an English daily and she rash comment on the state of morals among female stars and starlets in Tollywood is threatening to snowball into a major issue in Tollygunge.[6]Without mentioning names, she had given an arbitrary but damaging statement saying that actresses in Tollygunge slept around with producers and heroes to establish and sustain themselves in the industry.Swastika Mukherjee lashed out against her comment in a rejoinder published next week.People from the industry have responded to Swastika's attack with mixed feelings. But on the whole, they are backing her. Rachana Banerjee, another rising female star, has joined Swastika Mukherjee by sending off an official complaint to matinee idol Prosenjeet, secretary of the Artists' Forum.Declining any official comment, Prosenjeet lets out that the Forum has no part in what appears to be a personal squabble between two stars. But NK Salil, well-known screenplay and dialogues writer of Bengali films, commented that It ceases to remain personal once an official complaint has been lodged in writing to the Forum. The Artistes' Forum ought to have taken action as soon as the letter reached it. It is an important issue that involves the entire industry.

Khursheed

This is about the name. For people known by the name, see Khurshid (disambiguation).

Khurshid or Khursheed (خورشيد) is a commonly used Persian name, meaning sun mostly in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. The name derives from Middle Persian Khwarshed, which is in turn a contraction of Avestan Hvare Khshaeta "Radiant Sun."

While mostly prominent among the Muslims, "Khurshid" is also a common first name among the Parsis of India and Pakistan.

Both males and female bear it as a given name.
